transformational addition to existing cottage, angus glens
the client was looking to create new living spaces to take advantage of the spectacular evening views to the west of the existing house; the current dwelling turned its back on the view and had been badly amended in recent years with a new garage building further restricting the views
through the formation of a simple new link structure containing completely new doors to both new and existing parts of the dwelling and east and west gardens, the new structure was fitted in to the space between the existing building and the northern site boundary
the new structure featured small framed openings to the mountain views to the north, with an almost totally glazed gable elevation to the west and an external terrace; the new access path located between the two buildings
the storey and a half lounge space is located to the west of the new extension, with a mezzanine terrace sleeping and lounging platform located above the new shower room
new bedroom to the east of the new extension featured sliding doors and high level stained glass porthole windows as well as a breakfast terrace
the mezzanine sleeping / lounging platform has a ladder access from the new lounge and a great viewpoit to the angus landscape and the setting sun
